Ronda

A tour to Ronda is the classic excursion from Marbella and the Costa del Sol. Ronda is an enchanting and historic town perched on cliffs either side of the dramatic El Tajo gorge with its two very different sides joined by its famous bridge, El Puente Nuevo, which spans the gorge and offers jaw dropping views of the surrounding countryside. Ronda is a city with a thousand views, a thousand photos and thousands of years of history.

Its combination of natural beauty, being surrounded by the Sierras & mountains, its charming labyrinth of streets, its palaces, grand mansions, churches and convents makes a day trip to Ronda a day you’ll never forget. Our Ronda tour, as with all Marbella Escapes tours are private tours, meaning you get a truly unique and intimate experience. Your experienced and friendly guide will walk you around all the main sights of Ronda; El Tajo Gorge, El Puente Nuevo, the Puente Viejo & Puente Arabe, the Palacio de Mondragon, Iglesia de Espiritu Santo and the Old City Walls as well as many other hidden palaces, gardens, charming corners and outstanding views.

After starting our day in Setenil de Las Bodegas and after wonderful a day in the heart of Andalucía, at the Andalucían pace of life, we depart Ronda and return you to the Costa del Sol, with wonderful memories of a unique day trip.

Setenil de Las Bodegas

Setenil de Las Bodegas, unique amongst Andalucía’s myriad Pueblo Blancos, is a fascinating and above all unique place to visit. This small town of approx. 3000 inhabitants follows the meanderings of the Rio Trejo and its narrow and steep streets tumble down the sides of the valley. However its defining and famous feature is of course its streets and cave houses set directly into the cliffs carved by the river. Originally used as bodegas (hence the name Setenil de Las Bodegas,) many of these caves have a simple façade on the front and inside the bare rock is exposed.

Surrounded by a fertile plain, the town is justly famous for its delicious local products. Ranging from meats to cheeses, including the local specialty – Payoyo – and from craft beer to wine, as well course as dozens of varieties of locally produced olive oil and honey, it offers a chance to taste some truly local and traditional tapas. Setenil da Las Bodegas is a true Marbella Escape, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the Costa del Sol and is a special and unique start to our Ronda tour.
