Right Said Fred
Edward was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2004 and after surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy he recovered. He moved to Spain in 2006 and in 2012 saw that Bryan Ferry was performing at Puente Romano.
Edward came up with the idea of drawing some pictures of Bryan Ferry and seeing if Bryan would sign them. The sketches would be auctioned or sold with the proceeds going directly to Cancer charities. Edward contacted Bryan Ferry’s manager who kindly agreed and arranged for it to happen.
Since that first concert, over the past six years, Edward has contacted numerous acts asking them to do the same and has been pleasantly surprised at the number of performers who have agreed. These include Jaki Graham, Johnny Marr of the Smiths, Billy Ocean, Right Said Fred, Pet Shop Boys, Kaiser Chiefs, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Bananarama and Right Said Fred.
In 2015, Edward obtained signed drawings from Duran Duran who were appearing at the Gibraltar Festival. In 2016, he managed to secure the signatures of several other acts performing at the 2016 Gibraltar festival, Paul Young, All Saints, Travis and Madness. Edward managed to obtain signatures for drawings of more than 40 acts at the 2017 and 2018 festivals.
Many of these pieces have been auctioned for local charities, Danii's Children's Cancer Charity, Positively Pink as well as Cancer Relief Gibraltar and Cancer Research UK.
Later this year, Edward will be backstage, sketching The Jacksons and Toney Hadley when they appear at Puente Romano and Diana Krall and Il Divo at Starlite.
To date, Edward’s sketches have earned the charities over 10,000 Euros.
His next exhibition of drawings will be at Bella Vista Camping and Caravan Park between 1pm and 5pm on Saturday 20th July 2019. Proceeds from sales will be equally divided between Cancer Research UK and Gibraltar, Dani’s Home Charity and Positively Pink Costa del Sol.
