One thing that I love most about living on the Costa del Sol are the long Mediterranean summer days and evenings. Whether on holiday or living here permanently, there is so much to do and discover. There is something for all - whether you want adventure, a fun family day out or just somewhere to relax, there are numerous day trips you can take, starting from a base of Sotogrande, Duquesa or Casares. Here are some ideas of places to visit:
A day trip to the beautiful white sands of the Costa de la Luz is a must. Just 5 km from the town of Tarifa, you will find a stunning stretch of beach outside the Dos Mares Hotel. You can park here for just 3 euros for the day. The hotel has a chiringuito serving sandwiches, snacks and salads. It is in an ideal spot. If windy, you can sit in the shelter of the restaurant and watch the kite and windsurfers through the glass windows. You can also soak in the magnificent view across to the North African Coastline. The beach is simply breathtaking. For those seeking adventure, there is a windsurf and kitesurf school on site. You can also hire paddle boards from the school and have hours of fun in the waves. If you don’t fancy jumping in the sea, you can also go to the riding school at the hotel and ride a horse down the gorgeous sprawling beach. Key Tips: Leave early to avoid traffic and check out the wind strength on windguru.cz
Gibraltar is the perfect location for a day out. Only a half an hour drive from Casares (and even shorter the further west you are!), Gibraltar is an ideal place if you fancy a change of scenery. The top 3 things we recommend that you do in Gibraltar include: 1. Go up the rock in the cable car. Visit the key attractions including St Michael’s Cave and The Siege Tunnels and see the apes! 2. Go on a Dolphin Safari Boat Trip 3. Visit the Alameda Botanical Garden Key Tips: Don’t forget to take your passport with you – otherwise you won’t be allowed in. There is no fee to enter Gibraltar, if anyone stops you and says you have to pay a fee, it is a scam. Do NOT pay them and tell the guards when you get to the border control.
Bahia Park is a waterpark located in nearby Algeciras. Bahia Park is a good sized park, ideal for families with kids. There is something for all the family - from a kids area to a wave pool to the Kamikazee and Grand Niagara for the more adventurous. You can buy snacks on site and eat in the park or alternatively take a picnic with you. Hire some sunbeds and shades for only 3 euros a day! Key Tips: Book your tickets online to avoid queues at the entrance and to get additional discounts -https://www.bahiapark.com/en/ Hire your rings. You can pay 10 euros to hire a ring. You can then use this all day on the rides and can avoid waiting for the communal ones at each ride.
