Jaén Carnival is a festival that celebrates the history of the city. You can expect costume parades and performances by choirs, comparsas, murgas and chirigotas who present a satirical view of events throughout the year.
The dates for Jaén Carnival 2025 are not yet confirmed. In 2024, the event took place from 2 to 17 February 2024.
The Carnival in Jaén promises an array of vibrant events.
The festivities typically kick off with the Carnival Group Contest semifinals at Teatro Darymelia, featuring performances from various comparsas (carnival troupes) and chirigotas (satirical groups) from Jaén and other cities. Highlights include the Carnival Proclamation by Ajopringue, a school parade, and a grand finale contest.
There's also a costume contest, activities in Parque de la Concordia, including workshops, performances, and a treasure hunt. The celebration concludes with the traditional "Burial of the Sardine" ceremony, marking the end of the carnival. These events offer a rich cultural experience, showcasing local traditions, music, and humour.
