Blue Flag Beaches in Andalucia 2023

Andalucia has over 1000 kilometres of coastline and something over 300 beaches. The majority are small and located in cozy bays. Some places have hard-to-reach bays of a bizarre shape, attractive to the active traveller. Many beaches do not have natural shade, as the vegetation is either too small or completely absent, so do not forget your sun umbrella and protective products. Many of the isolated beaches also do not have toilet or changing facilities or chiringuitos.

Blue Flag Beaches in Andalucia – 2023

Each autumn, town halls submit applications to have their beaches awarded a ‘Blue Flag’. In order to gain the award the beaches must have clean bathing water and showers, life-guards, signage and environmental awareness programmes.

By definition, the isolated ‘virgin beaches’ enjoyed by many cannot qualify for a Blue Flag but that does not necessarily mean they are less superior to the others.

In 2023, Andalucia was awarded 114 Blue Flags for its beaches.

Isla Canela on the Costa de la Luz

In 2023, the Costa de la Luz gained 31 Blue Flag beaches. It has more Blue Flag beaches per kilometre of coast than any other part of Andalucia.
