This superb site consists of a large area of saltpans and scrubby ground about half a mile south west of Roquetas resort. The saltpans nearest the resort (i.e at the eastern end) held most water at the time of our visit and seemed quite deep, the flamingos were swimming. The site can be viewed quite well from the main road to the north, but to see it well it is necessary to take the track that runs along the southern edge of the salinas from Roquetas. This area has been improved by the Junta and there are well marked tracks, the whole being gated off at night. Just inside the gate there is also a small reedy pool to the left which is well worth checking. On a good day there are about 150 species to be seen here. Unfortunately the day we went, although sunny, was a day after the worst storms this year.
